First signs of Autumn

Right, I am very happy because Autumn is officially here. The leaves are turning brown and orange. Not much but the change is there. The grass is also starting to glow with lovely reddish tones that I actually really enjoy. Autumn is probably my favourite season because I don't like it when it is too hot, I don't mind if it is cloudy and drizzling (don't tell anyone I know) I love when it's cool enough to wear a sweater and a t-shirt, if I feel like it I can just take it off right?! But if it's too hot and sunny where do I hide?

Also there is the colours, I am crazy about colours and there is nothing more pretty than the natural hues and tones that exist in nature and the great outdoors. Autumn is the best time of the year for that. It is like an earthly celebration for the changing seasons with burst of colours and explosions of hues and lights and shades.

This is the best time of the year to go exploring in the countryside before the winter blues come down heavily on all of us. Go out and enjoy the last of the warm sun, the fresh air, and the beautiful leaves dancing in the air. Obviously, sometimes we will have to run before the rain but that is all part of the autumn experience.
If you love autumn you should be ready for that too.

I have a few photos from Connemara here, walking the ridges of Bunnagippaun with a fantastic view of Oughterard and a great storm brewing over the lough Corrib in the distance. Enjoy!

Roundstone visions

If you have heard of Roundstone you would know that this is one of the most picturesque little towns in Connemara.

Roundstone, landscape, mountains, ocean © Annie Japaud PhotographyI will never forget the first time I went there and I saw those mountains hanging above the town, the transparent blue waters of the ocean, the lovely cottages sprawled along the little roads and that was it for me, I fell in love instantly and for ever.
I try to get there every chance I get and I never have enough. If you make it all the way to Galway on your trip to Ireland then you have to do whatever you can to go up to Roundstone or you will regret it for the rest of your life, believe me!

The photos are taken a few years back with one of my first digital cameras and the image files are not of very good quality. Some photos are also taken from the window of the car while in motion which creates a rather fleeting feeling and the sense of motion which I enjoy immensely. But the beauty and the charm of the landscape is still there.

Come and join me on my trip to Roundstone!

Oughterard - one early summer morning

One early summer morning I took my camera, got the bike and took off cycling around Oughterard.

I love getting up early and cycling about 6 am in the summer is absolutely wonderful. There is still a bit of a chill in the air, birds are singing, and most importantly there is no one out and about yet. The whole town is mine to play with.

So, that morning I cycled main street and took shots of most of the main buildings and shops, went down Camp street and took the path to the boat house, then all the way to the pier - another one of my favourite places. From there I went up The Bog road, I have written many times about that one, and there are many photos taken there. For me, those are some of the best places in Oughterard. Obviously depending on the season and the weather, which is very important around here.

But let's get back to that early summer morning and have a look at the lovely town of Oughterard. Enjoy the beautiful flower pots everywhere decorating the town windows and the colourful and peaceful cottages.
Welcome to Oughterard
