CONNEMARA LANDSCAPES One moody April day

One moody April day, when I was out taking photos it was sunny, cloudy and ready to rain at the same time. Some would say, typical Irish weather. I could easily agree with them. One thing though, it makes for some fabulous nature photos.

Enjoy my Postcards from Ireland - one moody April day

From Above

There is nothing more impressive than a landscape from above. It doesn't matter if it is just a local view, a village from the surrounding hills, snuggled between the trees or a lake merging with the horizon, it is still gorgeous and beautiful.

Here is a fantastic view of Oughterard and Lough Corrib looking down  from the Connemara hills

Thank you for the visit!

OUGHTERARD 2010 The Big Freeze

frost on a fence

In January 2010 we got some unusual cold weather.

The temperature went down so suddenly that no one was prepared. We all iced completely, most of the people couldn't even get out of their houses that day. Later on, the salt in the shops disappeared... people were trying to get themselves free.

And what did I do? I took the camera and went out to take a few shots...

Photo walk through Kylemore Abbey, CONNEMARA

 Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore abbey is one of the most visited places in Ireland. The very trip to here is an absolute treat! Driving on the little winding roads between the mountains is absolutely amazing. The view around every turn is unforgettable.

So when you reach the car park you are already all excited from all the beauty around you and your fingers are itching to take some pictures.
I know there are bus tours coming here, but I prefer coming on my own time and not being rushed in a group. You can easily spend a whole day on the grounds, the place is enormous, there are even little shuttle buses to get you to the Victorian garden. There is a Cafe or you can bring your own picnic basket, and believe me there a few perfect picnic spots where you can spent a few hours just staring at the beauty all around you. I certainly recommend you do that! And the choice for picnic can be difficult -  too many gorgeous places to choose from.

When I was here, the day started with blue sky and sun, and it finished in the late afternoon with fog and drizzle. This is Connemara for you. My advice is: never leave your raincoat home.
