After Storm Hector

I wonder what's going on this year?!
We were having it so good the last few weeks and then overnight,
sudden and abrupt end to our gorgeous premature summer.

We had quite and eventful winter, a good selection of hurricanes, frozen pipes, no water and so on..
Yesterday was lovely and sunny today trampolines are flying away from gardens,
trees are blocking roads, garden furniture is spread all over the villages.

I normally wake up quite early to go to work and today it was quite eventful on the way there.
To be honest I had no idea all this racket during the night was called Hector, he sure kept me awake most of the time,
it felt as if everything in the garden was attempting to lift off.

Being out in a storm is quite an amazing feeling. The way the trees move, the leaves madly flattering in all directions at once,
the way the air howls in the wires along the road...so spooky and unnerving.

I just feel sad about the fallen and broken trees. Because I love trees.

I took a few shots, a few videos and couple of fallen trees blocking the road.
This is how it was after Storm Hector

As if a giant just rolled all over the forest

I hope someone takes care of this poor little tree

Do you remember the big rains a few years ago? I went to the waterfall in Oughterard and took photos and a videos of the huge river jumping OVER the bridge

The Gorgeous Green

greenery in the fields of ConnemaraBy this time of the year I am starved for green and colour in my life.

Finally, it is happening. No matter where you look it's like a jungle bushy, fluffy, exploding with life, textures, shapes and hundreds shades of green.

Honestly, I was walking the dogs early this morning, staring at the countryside around me and trying to differentiate all the nuances and hues of green . Well, it is simply impossible.

While working on my project, Walking Connemara, I recently discovered the Curra woods area just out of Moycullen, Co. Galway. It always amazes me how the most amazing places can be discovered just a few minutes away from a village or a own. And if you are not a local you wouldn't know about them, Or there is the other option, you could live on the other side of the village and just never go there ;-)

So here I have selected just a few images from the last few weeks, showing you the beautiful Curra area, lost in The Gorgeous Green

Happy St Patrick's day

OK, today is St. Patrick's day and everyone in Ireland is getting blasted. Well, maybe not yet, the parades are still on but later, when they are finished and the pubs are open, all hell will break loose!!

For some weird reason I am all alone in the house with the dogs. Everyone is busy somewhere but me. I have the whole house for myself. I debated for a long time shall I use this perfect moment to clean and mop the house, put the clothes away, do the bathroom as well...you know the usual womanly thing to do when they find themselves alone and free. They usually clean or cook or do something productive with their time. Not me.

Today, since it is a Bank Holiday weekend I decided to go against myself and just work on the computer, basically do something for myself instead for the good of everyone.
And you know what?! I am sitting here typing, working on photos for a friend and all that and at the same time I feel guilty because I am not cleaning and doing what I think I should be doing. Seriously, how sad is that?

Being a woman is a curse in many ways!!
Thank God I did not go to the parade, I don't think I was going to enjoy that at all!!

Anyway, Happy St. Patrick's day, hope you are having a grand time!!

July Mornings in Connemara

green countrysideThere is no better time to walk Connemara than during the beautiful July mornings.

Grab your best friend, your dogs, a few sandwiches and a bottle of water and hit the roads.

Quite often you don't really need to walk far for a good view especially if you are staying in Oughterard, Co Galway. Believe me, just in about 10-15 minutes you can be out of town, overlooking the area from an amazing high spot and thinking, WHY DIDN'T I DO THAT EARLIER?!

Cross  the bridge at the church, turn right and continue up by the school and then continue on...

In about 40 minutes (very slow walk) you will be admiring the best view over Lough Corrib and the surrounding woods and bogs. You would be walking the High road or as the locals call it Newvillage area.

This is a lovely little road but beware, it can get pretty busy at times like mid morning and late afternoon when people commute to work.

Right now I will show you the best time when no one is watching ;-)

The Irish Green

My favourite time of the year!!

Actually I say that with every season, but I do love the warmth of summer and of course the fantastic green colours of Ireland.

Believe me, the Irish green is not a joke!!
