The Snowy Winter of 2018

It's been quite a snowy winter so far.

I have to admit we haven't had such cold weather here in Ireland since the Big Freeze of 2010

I love cold and snow since I come from a country where there is an abundance of both. I love the feeling of freezing air on my face and the almost painful crispness of the bone chilling wind. Weird, isn't it?
But as much as  I would enjoy the snow and cold in Bulgaria, I don't feel the same about it here. Ireland is not used to such extreme temperature fluctuations  and is definitely not prepared for it. I do prefer a dry crispy day than a pouring rain any time, don't take me wrong.

I did not have great opportunities for photography since I was working most of the time but I managed to do a few snaps while walking the dogs.
Here you go. The images are mixed from different walks.

Warning:

I just have to add that when we talk about snow in Ireland it mainly means a light dusting of white over the scene.

Do not imagine 2 meter snow drifts.... :-)

I am writing this in January 2019 because in March 2018 I was proven wrong when the big snow started falling. Have a look in HERE

One frosty day in Oughterard

Once upon a time we woke up and there was lovely frost all over the place.

Other days we are totally iced over and there is widespread panic, well,  almost - no one can get out of their houses and traffic is completely upside down!!

Snow is a rare occasion here but we do get some from time to time. I can count those occasions on my fingers, like the BIG FREEZE of 2010 for example or The crazy Christmas eve of 2013 which actually had no snow ;)

Today was a very cold day here in January 2016, the roads were all frozen over and I kept thinking of snow as usual. Instead I give you some photos of Oughterard frosted all over. Enjoy!!

THE SHRUBBERY, Winter frost

Irish winters rarely have snow involved but a bit of frost is not out of the ordinary.

Being out on a chilly winter day, can be quite fun.
There are lots of photo opportunities when everything is frosted over.

Thank you for the visit!

OUGHTERARD 2010 The Big Freeze

frost on a fence

In January 2010 we got some unusual cold weather.

The temperature went down so suddenly that no one was prepared. We all iced completely, most of the people couldn't even get out of their houses that day. Later on, the salt in the shops disappeared... people were trying to get themselves free.

And what did I do? I took the camera and went out to take a few shots...
