Rambling through the Countryside

My early morning walk today was an amazingly blissful experience!! Everyone was still sleeping when I left, I didn't meet anyone and there were hardly any cars on the road. It was wonderfully quiet, so hushed and peaceful as if there was a forcefield covering and protecting everything around me. All creatures savoured the last of the refreshing morning coolness before the summer heat would descent upon us all. Even the birds were not singing and the farmers were nowhere to be seen.
It is Sunday after all. We all need a day to relax.
If you wish to experience this wonderful blissful moment and you happen to be passing through Oughterard, or staying here over the weekend, all you need to do is start early, between 7 and 8 am, and take the road to Costelloe and Rossaveel,it continues up from Station road. If you walk up for about an hour you will arrive to a view point with a magnificent vista in front of you. Of if you don't have the strength, experience or stamina to continue all the way up the hills, just go as far as you can, it will still be a peaceful and enjoyable countryside ramble.

Hope you enjoyed your walk with me

Hiding from the Heat

     Finally. A real heat wave.
We have been waiting for one of those for the last 5 years. And for once it is really hot, soaring 30 degrees or so. When did that actually happened here in Ireland? I am sure no one can remember.
The best time to enjoy the outdoors right now is very early in the morning and since the sun is up and about at around 4.30 am you can imagine how early that could be.
The other good time of the day is obviously in the evening. It is a different feeling from the early morning but it is very enjoyable, peaceful and after the hot temperatures during the day it feels wonderfully breezy, cool and so refreshing.
For me the place to be on a day like that would be somewhere close to water. Here is another photo walk along the Owenriff river.

And finally, the best way to get around in summer:

Thanks for the visit!

The Fabulous Bog Lands

This year the cotton grass is so abundant, it is incredibly noticeable. If you travel along the little countryside roads winding through the heath lands and the bogs,

you simply can not miss the white fluffy carpet spread among the peat piles and the green fields. It is a beautiful sight, very typical for the Irish landscape. And if you are visiting Ireland this summer you are extremely lucky to see the fabulous bog lands adorned so beautifully with cotton grass. Enjoy.

Walking the Bogs

Somewhere in the area between Rosscahil and the Lough Corrib there is a unique place, abundant with blankets of bogs, patches of karst landscape, groves of hazel trees and a quilt of wild flowers spreading  over everything.

Taking a walk on the little roads is a very enjoyable experience. In June, the flowers are at their best, the green is lush and verdant. The daisies are going crazy everywhere. It's my favourite time of the year. Taking the time to walk the bog roads is the perfect summer entertainment for any outdoor lovers.
Enjoy the view.

There was a bit of a very pleasant breeze!

I was a bit of a curiosity there for a while

thanks for the visit everyone!!
